Designed for the first-line project manager or project leader, this workshop covers those subjects the leader must know in order to plan, schedule, and control a project. These subjects include estimating techniques, PERT and Gantt charts, resource allocation, status reporting, etc. All information presented by a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and is consistent with PMI’s PMBOK©. A portion of the course is spent on managing the project manager’s time, particularly delegating and managing meetings. Most importantly, students will learn how to deliver projects on time and within budget.

Scrum is the agile development process that allows teams to deliver usable software periodically throughout the life of the project, absorbing change and new requirements as the project proceeds.

Traditional software project management methods fix requirements in an effort to control time and cost; what we’ve learned after decades of building software is that requirements often need to change based on market conditions or the reality of the emerging system. Scrum allows organizations to shift requirements in a manner that does not disrupt the team. Scrum teams make progress in a series of sprints, or fixed time-boxes of usually one to four weeks. Moreover, delivering products using Scrum relies heavily on the collaboration between the team and the product owner to create the right product for the customer in a lean fashion.

This course prepares the student to properly identify, define and confirm the customer’s true requirements when they are needed – prior to the design and development of the system. The key to every project’s success, accurately captured requirements are not only essential for meeting stakeholders’ expectations, but also to avoid costly delays, added cost for rework, and poor customer relations.

PMI’s Project Management Professional (PMP®) certification is the preeminent professional credential for individuals associated with project management. This course provides students with the training, the materials and the support to prepare for the challenging PMP examination. Completion of this course qualifies as the formal education requirement to sit for the PMP examination. Topic covered include the following:

  • Initiating a Project
  • Planning Your Work
  • Developing Project Schedules, Cost Estimates, and Budgets
  • Planning Project Quality, Staffing, and Communications
  • Analyzing Risks and Planning Risk Response
  • Planning Project Procurement
  • Working the Plan
  • Controlling the Project
  • Closing the Project

Why Our Course?

There are four distinct reasons that make our PMP® certification exam prep course unique and the most desirable option in the DC Metro Area:

The course content is designed specifically to help you pass the PMP® exam, on the first try.

Our instructors are professionals from industry and academia and have a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter and what it takes to become a certified PMP®

We appreciate that professionals have diverse work and family time constraints and therefore we offer three course formats to best meet your needs. We also allow some flexibility between options in case of unforeseen time conflicts. For example, if you are enrolled in the weeknight Tuesday/Thursday session and you are not able to make one of the classes (perhaps due to travel conflicts), you may opt to attend the following Saturday session (with instructor approval).

LKA is a Prometric™ Testing Center and we offer the convenience of taking the test immediately after completing the course

Course Description:

This 35 hour course is specifically designed as a comprehensive review to prepare you for the rigorous 200-question PMP® certification exam, as well as the CAPM® exam. The focus is directed at the five project management processes and nine knowledge areas in PMI’s Project Management Body of Knowledge, Third Edition (PMBOK®).

The course will begin with a discussion of the Project Management Institute (PMI®), eligibility requirements for PMP®/CAPM® and a brief review of tips to apply for the exam. Emphasis will be placed on the makeup and format of the exam as well as test-taking techniques that will improve the chances of passing (LKA guarantee). Students will learn the components of the PMBOK® and related materials that will be tested with maximal use of study time directed toward passing the exam. With the 1,200 simulation test questions students can focus on the entire exam and its knowledge areas or on weak spots to bolster confidence and increase the chances of passing. The course will end with a discussion on important lessons learned and professional responsibility associated with being a certified individual.

The Project Management Institute (PMI) recognized the growth of agile project management and introduced the new PMI-Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP) certification. This certification will validate a project manager’s experience and mastery of agile principles and processes.

This course provides counterintelligence, competitive intelligence, and security awareness for cybersecurity professionals in both government and private industry. Students will be provided an overview of the intelligence community and an introduction to counterintelligence. The course identifies threats to national security and private industry interests from foreign collectors, insiders, and various traditional and non-traditional sources. Students are introduced to counterintelligence and law enforcement agencies with cybersecurity or cyber-counterintelligence missions and given tools and techniques for building effective relationships within those communities. The course provides an in depth review of operations security practices to identify threats and vulnerabilities, assess risk, and employ countermeasures. The course helps students understand the requirements for and value of reporting cyber incident information.

This 2-day course will introduce you to the world of service orientation and prepare you to identify, define, diagnose, and implement a comprehensive security strategy for a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) initiative. SOA opens up a whole realm of security issues due to its ubiquity, decentralization, distributed, and even federated nature. Students will be exposed to a broad range of service orientation topics and enterprise SOA security subjects, providing a solid foundational understanding of valid and in-valid approaches to designing and implementing SOA security.

Computer hacking forensic investigation is the process of detecting hacking attacks and properly extracting evidence to report the crime and conduct audits to prevent future attacks. Computer forensics enables the systematic and careful identification of evidence in computer related crime and abuse cases. This may range from tracing the tracks of a hacker through a client’s systems, to tracing the originator of defamatory emails, to recovering signs of fraud. The CHFI course will provide participants the necessary skills to identify an intruder’s footprints and to properly gather the necessary evidence to prosecute in the court of law.

ECSA is a highly interactive 5-day security class designed to teach Security Professionals the advanced uses of the LPT methodologies, tools and techniques required to perform comprehensive information security tests. Students will learn how to design, secure and test networks to protect your organization from the threats hackers and crackers pose. By teaching the tools and ground breaking techniques for security and penetration testing, this class will help you perform the intensive assessments required to effectively identify and mitigate risks to the security of your infrastructure. As students learn to identify security problems, they also learn how to avoid and eliminate them, with the class providing complete coverage of analysis and network security-testing topics.

The ENSA certification looks at the network security in defensive view while the CEH certification program looks at the security in offensive mode. The ENSA program is designed to provide fundamental skills needed to analyze the internal and external security threats against a network, and to develop security policies that will protect an organization’s information.

Students will learn how to evaluate network and Internet security issues and design, and how to implement successful security policies and firewall strategies. In addition, they will learn how to expose system and network vulnerabilities and defend against them.

This course teaches the student the fundamental concepts, methodologies, and tools necessary to analyze network traffic for the purposes of intrusion and threat detection, network defense, and low profile offensive operations.

The offensive side is highlighted during the course to illustrate what attackers can and will do to compromise a network. The defensive side begins with edge security of the public facing interface and focuses on the various methods used for protection. The class progresses inward focusing on network security, host security, intrusion detection and touches on incident response. Tools, techniques and methodology are emphasized in an interactive environment where students will be exposed to various defensive guides and processes.

This course is targeted toward an IT professional that has the technical knowledge and skills required to conceptualize, design, and engineer secure solutions across complex enterprise environments. Students aspiring to CASP certification should have a minimum of 10 years experience including at least five years of hands-on technical security experience.
